Former appraiser Kathy Coons claims she was fired for refusing to participate in former county assessor’s illegal scheme.
VANCOUVER, Washington – Former Klickitat County appraiser, Kathy Coons, filed suit last week in Skamania County Superior Court in connection with what she claims was a concerted effort to silence her complaints about illegal activity in the County Assessor’s Office.
The suit, filed by Coons’ Vancouver, Washington attorneys, Greg Ferguson and Jack Green, alleges that Coons began complaining in early 2008 that then County Assessor, Harold Vandenberg, and Chief Appraiser, Michael McBride, had implemented an illegal practice of using inflated property value data in setting land values in Klickitat County far above actual market value, to increase property taxes and fill County coffers.
